Making the News

Evangelism Tips December 7th, 2009

Picture your city. Can you see all the lost and hurting people? Now just imagine… What if every man, woman, and child in your city heard the Good News of Jesus Christ? What if each and every one of them responded to Jesus on the same day?

Every newspaper would take notice! Every radio station would report “the greatest revival of all time.” Every television newscast would highlight the dramatic reformation.

It’s a glorious thing to imagine. But – guess what? Even then the work of evangelism would not be finished. What about the new children? What about other countries? What about the millions of people who have never heard of Jesus Christ?

In the Bible, Jesus says, “Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” It is true. Even if every major population center around the world converted to Jesus Christ, we would still have work to do. So, we must never give up. We must continually seize every opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. You might not be able to tell your entire city about Jesus, but you can tell one person.

Excuses, Excuses

Evangelism Tips December 3rd, 2009

When I lived in Mexico City, I would chat occasionally with my next-door neighbor. But I didn’t share the Gospel with him. I told myself that I didn’t need to talk to him about Jesus because he seemed happy just as he was. In time, my neighbor changed. The joy left his face. He and his wife started driving separate cars to work. I could tell their marriage was souring. I felt I should talk with him, but I didn’t want to meddle in his life. I went about my business and headed off for an evangelistic crusade in Peru. When I returned home, I learned my neighbor had killed himself. I was heartbroken. I knew I should have gone to him and persuaded him to repent and follow Christ. But, because of silly excuses, I didn’t do it. We must not make excuses for not telling people about Jesus Christ. The Bible says Christians are, “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” Friends, let’s be bold in our faith! Don’t do what I did. Don’t walk past an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus. The world is literally dying without Jesus Christ.

Sharing Our Faith isn’t Easy

Evangelism Tips December 1st, 2009

Sharing our faith isn’t always easy – I know! As a young man, I was convinced I didn’t have the gift of evangelism. No matter how hard I tried, no one was coming to faith in Jesus Christ. I remember giving God a deadline: “If I don’t see any converts by the end of the year, I’m quitting.” I would still be an active Christian, but I planned to resign myself from striving to win the lost to Jesus Christ. The end of the year came and went. No converts. Now I was SURE I didn’t have the gift of evangelism. Then, about four days into the new year, I met someone who said, “Please tell me how I can get a pure heart.” Together we looked at the Bible. It says, “The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.” That was the answer! That evening, this person found peace with God and went home with a pure heart overflowing with joy. How delightful it was to lead this person to Jesus Christ! You can do the same. YOU can lead someone to faith in Jesus Christ. But you must boldly ask God to use you. And then you must respond when He gives you the opportunity. He will help you, but you must first be willing.

What’s Done for Christ will Last

Evangelism Tips November 20th, 2009

My wife Pat often quotes the saying, “Only one life ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” I like that. Our lives will fly by faster than we expect. The apostle Paul reminds us of that when he says “you are a mist that appears for a while and then vanishes.” So what are we doing to make a difference for eternity?

I’ve met many believers who reflect the outward signs of committed Christians. They’re involved in their churches. They love the Bible. Still, they seem to be stalled in their Christian walk. They’re not growing in their faith, they’re not joyful and they’re not filled with the Holy Spirit.

It’s so sad because they’re passing up opportunities to share their faith! So, how do we followers of Christ re-kindle the passion that first brought us to Him?

The answer is to get back to the basics. Re-surrender and welcome Christ back into your heart. Pray and worship. Read and meditate on your Bible. Share your faith with someone who needs to know Jesus. As you watch the Lord work, you’ll discover a new enthusiasm for the things of God.
